Inspired by the work of the English dramatist Sarah Kane, and the study of the “Madness and Civilization: A History of Insanity in the Age of Reason” (1961) of Michel Foucault, I have produced (2008-2013) the “Social multimedia art workshop” in the therapeutic community “The Dolphins” [Child and Adolescent Neuropsychiatry sector, Hospital Niguarda Ca’ Granda].
The Dolphins are located in the former “Paolo Pini” Psychiatric Hospital in Milan (Italy), where 8 young girls (13-17 years old) are accommodated during their course of therapy. The fundamental question of the project is: how can we protest against pain instead of simply take notice of it? [Susan Sontag]. During workshop activities, the members of the “Dolphins Company” create multimedia and collective art works to narrate their emotions and experiences.
All the art works produced are collected on the web site: https://blogdelfine.wordpress.com (from 2010 to 2015 was online at the page www.delfine.it). It is the first web site the world over to be made entirely by people who, due to their severe mental health condition, live in an isolated place where every kind of information is strictly protected by the rights to privacy. The goal of the project is to retain this protection of identity, yet still comunicate with the world.
